ESPECIAL AMÉRICA LATINA / LATAM SPECIAL EDITION: SOLAR PV NEW PV POWER PLANTS CALAMA SOLAR I AND PUERTO SECO SOLAR IN CHILE In 2017, in Chile’s Atacama Desert, and specifically in Calama, Solarpack commissioned two PV plants, Calama Solar I and Puerto Seco Solar, of 10.5 MWp each. SOLARPACK Calama Solar I has been operating since March 2017 and generates 30,600 MWh of clean energy a year. Puerto Seco Solar, meanwhile, entered service at the end of June 2017. It is the company’s sixth plant in Chile and it generates a further 30,600 MWh a year, on top of the output from Calama Solar I. In total, the plants that Solarpack has developed and built in the Andean region generate more than 300,000 MWh a year. The generation from Calama Solar I and Puerto Seco Solar equals the consumption of 20,000 Chilean homes and avoids the emission of more than 25,000 tons of atmospheric CO2 a year. The Calama Solar I and Puerto Seco Solar plants are equipped with around 64,000 330-watt polycrystalline silicon modules. The plants also have tracker technology to optimize generation. The whole system is highly automated and is monitored continuously from Solarpack’s global control centers. The energy generated by the plants is sold to the Chilean electricity system under a stabilized nodal price scheme. Within this scheme, plants of up to 9 MW have the option of adopting a fixed-price energy generation methodology that is maintained for six months and is based on the average selling NUEVAS PLANTAS FOTOVOLTAICAS DE CALAMA SOLAR I Y PUERTO SECO SOLAR EN CHILE En 2017 Solarpack puso en marcha en el desierto de Atacama en Chile, concretamente en Calama, dos plantas fotovoltaicas, Calama Solar I y Puerto Seco Solar, de 10,5 MWp cada una. SOLARPACK Calama Solar I está operativa desde marzo de 2017 y genera 30.600 MWh al año de energía limpia. Por su parte, Puerto Seco Solar se puso en servicio a finales de junio de 2017. Se trata de la sexta planta solar en funcionamiento de la compañía en Chile y genera otros 30.600 MWh anuales y adicionales a los de Calama Solar I. El conjunto de plantas desarrolladas y construidas por Solarpack en la región Andina generan anualmente más de 300.000 MWh. La generación de las plantas Calama Solar I y Puerto Seco Solar equivale al consumo de 20 mil hogares chilenos y evitan cada año la emisión a la atmósfera de más de 25.000 toneladas de CO2. En las plantas de Calama Solar 1 y Puerto Seco Solar se han instalado unos 64.000 módulos de 330 vatios cada uno de silicio policristalino. Asimismo, cuentan con la tecnología de seguimiento del sol que permite optimizar la generación. Todo el sistema está altamente automatizado y es monitoreado continuamente desde los centros de control globales de Solarpack. La energía generada por las plantas se vende al sistema eléctrico chileno, bajo el esquema de precio estabilizado de nudo.
